JLSG FRANCE

The Commandement de l’appui et de la logistique de théâtre (CALT) headquarters plays a major role in the operational-level logistics of the French Army.

'Remaining operational under all circumstances, everywhere, and at all times.'

The CALT HQ appears as a key element in support and logistics for modern military operations, by innovating, adapting its methods to meet the challenges of high-intensity combat, and enabling a strategic superiority factor.

Regarding the Army, this mission confirms the major role of logistics: enabling first-line units to maintain operational advantage.

History

The Commandement de l’appui et de la logistique de théâtre (CALT) is one of the major headquarters created during the French Army transformation, tailored specifically for a high-level deployment against an enemy with capabilities similar to ours.

Mission

With over 15,000 specialists and 19 specialised regiments in areas such as transportation, convoy escort, maintenance, military engineering, heavy work, or CRBN defence, CALT's mission is to enable the deployment of a force in theatre.

Broadly speaking, logistics is the ability to deliver the right thing to the right place at the right time for the troops deployed in theatre. 'Knowing how to last longer than the enemy to win the war.’

Role

By bringing together logistics experts and specialists, the CALT HQ is able to support a division autonomously or in coalition.

To meet this operational objective, the CALT HQ coordinates the synergies of three unique and complementary brigades:

  • The engineering brigade organises, through its unique support capability, the deployment of the troops, from the rear to the front area (crossing, mobility, protection, CRBN...).
  • The logistics brigade supplies all units on theatre.
  • The maintenance brigade ensures the continuity of equipment availability.

Organization

With its engineering, logistics, and maintenance brigades, it ensures the continuity of supply flow from the rear to the front.

Joint Logistic Support Group (JLSG)

From July 1st 2026, to June 30th 2027, the CALT HQ and its regiments, totalling nearly 2500 support specialists, will be responsible for the logistical component of the Allied Reaction Force and form the Joint Logistic Support Group.

This multinational unit coordinates all essential support elements (fuel, ammunition, health, food, maintenance, traffic, mobility, protection, and deployment-redeployment of units) to ensure the operational autonomy of allied forces.

Its mission is to welcome Alliance troops onto an operational theatre, supply them, and care for them throughout the operation.

The JLSG is also responsible for their return to their respective countries. 'First in, last out' (#FirstIn#LastOut).
