Milan, April 9, 2020. Professor Andrew Roberts spoke to NRDC-ITA staff on the topic of Leadership in War.
Prof. Roberts, an internationally renowned British historian, author and journalist joined the NRDC-ITA staff via video link to speak about Leadership from the historical perspective. Having published over a dozen books and won many international prizes for his accounts of leaders such as Winston Churchill, Napoleon and Lord Nelson, Prof. Roberts was ideally placed to provide astute reflections on Leadership in War (click here to find more info on the book).
Prof. Robert’s lecture built on the foundation of NRDC-ITA’s successful Leadership Seminar, held at the Palazzo Cusani, Milan, this January. The professional development of the international military leaders within the NATO HQ is a top priority for the Command, ensuring NRDC-ITA maintains its status as a leading centre for training within Italy and the wider NATO community.
Over 250 staff from the 18 different countries represented on the NRDC-ITA staff were able to listen and engage with the professor, with many interesting questions leading to some interesting discussions. In addition, NRDC-ITA was able to open the opportunity to other commands and were glad to be joined by different commanders , as well as members of the academic world with which the Milan based HQ maintains very strong ties with. NRDC-ITA has well established relationships with 7 top Italian universities and is building a growing list of internationally based academic contributors.
In these challenging times events such as these demonstrate that NRDC-ITA staff are maintaining readiness and improving their professional knowledge, whilst minimising travel and observing the required restrictions necessary to combat COVID-19. Over the next few weeks further conferences and lectures are planned as the HQ establishes a new battle rhythm ensuring that it remains ready to support the Alliance should the need arise.
