JLSG Commander Visits Estonia and Latvia to Boost Allied Logistics Readiness

From 13 to 17 October 2025, Brigadier General (GRC) L. Nakos, Commander of the Joint Logistics Support Group (JLSG), visited the NATO Force Integration Units (NFIUs) in Estonia and Latvia to strengthen relationships and enhance the operational readiness of the Allied Reaction Force (ARF) in the Baltic region. The visit was part of ongoing efforts to ensure that NATO forces can deploy and sustain operations effectively in areas of strategic importance.

During his visit, General Nakos met with NFIU representatives in Tallinn and Riga, as well as with host nation authorities, to discuss logistical capabilities, infrastructure, and organizational structures. The delegation gathered critical information about the readiness of Estonia and Latvia to support allied forces during deployments and transits, while also exploring ways to improve coordination and cooperation across the logistics network.

Key topics included deployment and redeployment planning, synchronization of logistical and medical support, and third-line sustainment. The discussions also addressed contracted support to operations, highlighting how national civilian resources can contribute to NATO’s operational efficiency. By comparing procedures and identifying potential constraints, the delegation and host nation counterparts were able to explore opportunities for better harmonization and integration of support activities.

The visit underscores the strategic importance of strong relationships between NATO units and host nations. By deepening mutual understanding and building trust, the JLSG ensures that allied forces can respond rapidly and effectively to evolving security challenges in the region. The engagement also reinforced the central role of JLSG in coordinating logistics, supporting ARF operations, and maintaining readiness across multinational forces.

This initiative is part of a long-term effort to enhance NATO’s logistics network and ensure coherence across all levels of command. It lays the groundwork for future liaison activities and Key Leader Engagements, strengthening the Alliance’s ability to operate seamlessly and sustain its forces in critical areas. The visit highlighted the value of logistics as a key enabler of interoperability, efficiency, and operational readiness, supporting NATO’s strategic posture in the 21st century.
