"NRDC-ITA No Limits": Sport, Inclusion, and Solidarity at Ugo Mara Barracks

Solbiate Olona, 17 May 2025 – The third edition of “NRDC-ITA No Limits” took place today at the Ugo Mara Barracks, bringing together sport, inclusion, and the military world. The event was attended by military and civilian authorities from the Province of Varese and the municipalities of the Olona Valley.

Organized in collaboration with the Italian Paralympic Committee – Lombardy, Special Olympics Lombardy, the Province of Varese, and the Municipality of Solbiate Olona, the initiative aims to raise public awareness on disability-related issues while also fostering a closer connection between the public and the military.

The event featured Paralympic champions, members of the Defense Paralympic Sports Group (GSPD), local students, and numerous associations from the area. The day was officially opened by Lieutenant General Lorenzo D’Addario, Commander of NATO Rapid Deployable Corps – Italy (NRDC-ITA), who welcomed all participants with a message highlighting sport as a powerful tool for self-awareness and overcoming limitations, both physical and mental.

A dynamic sports circuit was set up, showcasing a wide variety of inclusive activities, demonstrating how sports can truly be for everyone. The featured disciplines included: Baskin, baseball, table football, table tennis, football, fencing, bowling, clown therapy, dog therapy, hockey, horseback therapy, martial arts, Italian military dynamic gymnastics, hot air ballooning, rugby, go-karting, and art and craft exhibitions.

The Armed Forces have always shown particular care for personnel who have suffered disabling injuries or illnesses in the line of duty, whether at home or abroad. This event once again reaffirmed NRDC-ITA’s commitment to inclusion and its ongoing support for vulnerable groups.

Since its establishment in 2001, NRDC-ITA has consistently promoted charity events and donation initiatives in support of local associations, demonstrating that the men and women of the Corps are always ready to respond — not only in distant crisis zones, but also close to home, for those who need it most.
