Solbiate Olona, 18 December 2025. The Commander of the Italian Land Operational Forces (COMFOTER), Lieutenant General Lorenzo D'Addario, was welcomed today by the Commander of the NATO Rapid Deployable Corps – Italy (NRDC-ITA) at “Ugo Mara” Barracks.
During the visit, General D'Addario met with the representatives of the Nations contributing to the Headquarters and attended an informational briefing on the organization, tasks, mission rehearsal activities and future commitments of the NRDC-ITA.
Particular attention was devoted to technological transformation, innovation, the digitalization of command-and-control procedures, and the Multi-Domain approach within the framework of the Allied Reaction Force (ARF) Headquarters, supporting the Alliance in its three core tasks: deterrence and defense, crisis prevention and management, and cooperative security.
As the visit continued, the COMFOTER Commander highlighted the high multinational and joint operational profile of the Headquarters, expressing his appreciation for the professionalism, strong sense of duty, and commitment of the personnel, who are always prepared to deploy to deter, prevent escalation, contribute to defence and manage crisis (if required).
As former Commander of NRDC-ITA and “pioneer” of ARF project, Gen D'Addario pointed out that NRDC-ITA operates as “broker” for ITA Army and NATO, facilitating the interaction and offering a privileged window into NATO. Thus, it is key to invest in NRDC-ITA both in human resources and infra/info-structure in order to amplify the great effects in terms of military capabilities ready to fight for Italy and for the Alliance.
The NATO Rapid Deployable Corps – Italy (NRDC – ITA) is a multinational Headquarters based in Solbiate Olona, in the province of Varese. Italy provides about 75% of the personnel – Officers, Non Commissioned Officers, Junior Ranks and enlisted soldiers, while the remaining 25% is composed of service members from 18 Allied Nations.
