Tallinn, Estonia 08 June 2026 – As part of Italy's contribution to NATO's collective security efforts, the Commander of the Allied Reaction Force (ARF), met today with the Ambassador of Italy to Estonia, Stefano Catani.
The meeting provided an opportunity to discuss the key aspects of Italy's commitment to the Alliance, with specific attention to the pivotal role assumed by Italy in leading the ARF, the highest NATO readiness multinational and multi-domain force.
During the discussion, the ARF Commander had the opportunity to highlight the role and value of ARF as a strategic tool in SACEUR hands to address any challenge for the security across and beyond the Euro-Atlantic area (including the Baltic area).
Specifically, the Italian General focused on what the ARF is doing as well its evolution and future perspective. In this venue, he stressed the recent Steadfast Dart (STDT) 2026 Mission Rehearsal in the heart of Germany. In fact, STDT 26 contributed to demonstrating the high level of integration of multinational and multi-domain forces under its command and the speed of intervention even in the Baltic region (if required).
At the same time, the ARF Commander underscored the ARF's role as a leading platform for innovation and experimentation of modern warfare, where advanced technologies, modern Command and Control systems, and emerging operational concepts are developed, tested and integrated across all operational domains.
The meeting also provided a valuable opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of the regional operating environment through the insights and assessments shared by the Ambassador regarding Estonia as crossroad between Baltic and the North Countries. Finally, it was a great opportunity to receive an update about the role of Estonia in the digital transformation and the significant contribution to NATO modernization within the framework of Eastern Flank Deterrence Initiative (EFDI).
