Solbiate Olona (Italy), 16 July 2026 – From 13 to 16 July, the Allied Reaction Force (ARF) Headquarters conducted an intensive Wargaming activity, bringing together the entire Headquarters staff and the Command leadership with the support of instructors from SHAPE.

Structured in two complementary phases, the program combined classroom instruction with practical application, offering the great opportunity to stimulate the analytical thinking of staff and challenge the decision-making of Leadership.

The players responded very positively and remained engaged throughout the activity, leading to lively and productive discussions that generated valuable outcomes. Besides contributing to boosting NRDC-ITA’s operational output, the activity will also be instrumental in refining wargaming models and assumptions through subject matter expertise.

This key activity represents another important milestone in the Headquarters' journey toward increased readiness. It is part of a broader and progressive program designed to enhance the HQ's capabilities through exposure to complex problems, uncertainty and an adaptive and creative adversary.

The participation of SHAPE experts also highlighted the strong network of cooperation that NRDC-ITA in the role of ARF HQ has established across the NATO Command Structure. This close collaboration continues improving interoperability and standardization, as well as strengthening mutual understanding and promoting a common operational culture. Additionally, the results of this experience will be shared across NATO land community of interest (LANDCOM and the Sister Corps) as well as in favor of national units.

This Wargaming event further confirms the ARF Headquarters' commitment to investing in its human resources, processes and capabilities. By continuously improving professional knowledge, refining Command and Control procedures and embracing innovative approaches, NRDC-ITA is increasingly establishing itself as a recognized hub for education, preparation and innovation at NATO and national level.
