DOBBIACO, 09 June 2027, Rehearsal Dart 27 concluded today at Dobbiaco Airfield following an intensive training cycle conducted from 4 May to 8 June, involving more than 200 soldiers from the 1st Signal Regiment operating alongside assets from the 6th Alpini Regiment and other Italian Army units.
The rehearsal provided a valuable opportunity to validate key operational capabilities supporting the Allied Reaction Force (ARF), NATO’s multinational and multidomain force operating under the direct authority of the Supreme Allied Commander Europe (SACEUR) and designed to deliver readiness, responsiveness and credible military power in support of the Alliance’s Collective Defence.
Conducted in demanding mountainous terrain, Rehearsal Dart 27 enabled the testing and refinement of advanced Command and Control (C2) architectures and next-generation C5I systems, ensuring uninterrupted information flows and real-time operational awareness. These capabilities are essential to enabling the ARF to operate simultaneously across multiple Joint Operational Areas (JOAs) while coordinating land, air, maritime, space and cyber effects within a highly dynamic multidomain environment.
The rehearsal forms part of the broader readiness program through which the ARF continues to strengthen its ability to act as NATO’s immediate response force. In this context, effective coordination among operational components and seamless integration across strategic and operational levels remain critical to ensuring a timely, coherent and effective response to any crisis or threat affecting Euro-Atlantic security.
Rehearsal Dart 27 also highlighted the ARF’s role as a platform for innovation within NATO, where emerging technologies are integrated and tested to enhance military effectiveness. Particular emphasis was placed on Artificial Intelligence-enabled solutions designed to accelerate information-processing, support decision-making, improve situational awareness and increase the efficiency of operational planning. The employment of Uncrewed Aerial Systems further expanded reconnaissance and surveillance capabilities, providing commanders with a more comprehensive and timely understanding of the operational environment.
Yet technological progress alone does not determine operational success. The most decisive force multiplier remains the human dimension. The professionalism, expertise and adaptability demonstrated by the personnel involved throughout the exercise confirmed that the successful integration of technology, doctrine and leadership ultimately depends on highly trained and motivated people. In summary, this combination enables the ARF to maintain the highest levels of readiness and effectiveness across the full spectrum of military operations.
Through activities such as Rehearsal Dart 27, the Allied Reaction Force continues to strengthen interoperability among Allied forces, develop a shared understanding of the operating environment and enhance the capabilities required to meet future security challenges. In an increasingly complex strategic landscape, the ability to combine innovation, human capital and multinational cooperation remains essential to sustaining NATO’s operational credibility.
Rehearsal Dart 27 clearly demonstrates how the Alliance, through the ARF, continues to invest in Deterrence and defence by maintaining highly ready, interoperable and technologically advanced forces capable of delivering a rapid, credible and effective response whenever and wherever required.
