SOLBIATE OLONA, Italy – NATO Rapid Deployable Corps Italy (NRDC-ITA) successfully conducted a Rehearsal of Concept (RoC) Drill focused on validating the Joint Air-Ground Integration Centre (JAGIC), marking a significant milestone in the development of enhanced joint command-and-control capabilities within a Multi-Domain Operations framework.
Held at Ugo Mara Barracks from 25 to 28 May, the activity brought together personnel from NRDC-ITA Headquarters, the Land and Air assets to test and refine procedures, workflows and coordination mechanisms within a shared operational environment.
The event represented the first occasion on which the three organizations operated together as an integrated JAGIC construct, demonstrating the potential of a joint approach to synchronize effects across the land and air domains while enhancing operational responsiveness and decision-making speed.
The outcomes confirmed the soundness of the operational concept and highlighted the strategic value of integrated command-and-control structures capable of accelerating information sharing, improving situational awareness and supporting timely decisions in complex and fast-evolving operational scenarios.
The initiative directly supports NRDC-ITA's contribution to NATO's Allied Reaction Force (ARF), the Alliance's highly ready and rapidly deployable force designed to respond to emerging crises across the full spectrum of operations. As the security environment becomes increasingly interconnected and contested, effective integration among land, air, maritime, cyber and space capabilities remains a critical enabler of operational success.
Within this context, JAGIC serves as a force multiplier by connecting sensors, decision-makers and effectors within a unified framework, enabling commanders to better synchronize activities across domains and achieve decision advantage.
The activity also underscored the importance of digital transformation as a cornerstone of future military operations. Advanced command-and-control architectures, resilient communication networks, data-centric processes and emerging Artificial Intelligence-enabled decision-support tools are increasingly essential to managing the growing complexity and speed of modern warfare.
As NATO continues to evolve towards a fully integrated Multi-Domain Operations approach, initiatives such as JAGIC contribute to strengthening interoperability, enhancing readiness and improving the Alliance's ability to rapidly deploy and effectively employ military capabilities across all operational domains.
The next phase of development will include further experimentation and validation activities aimed at refining procedures, enhancing interoperability and supporting the achievement of full operational capability for this important joint capability.
